W: Is there anything else you want to buy while we are downtown?
M: Let’s stop at the camera shop to get some color film.

M: Ms Smith is sick today. She has a class from two to four pm. Can you teach her class?
W: Oh, sorry. My cousin is coming to visit me this week, and he’s arriving from Seattle today at three.
Text 3
M: When will the lecture start?
W: It’s supposed to start at 6:30 pm, but I heard the professor would be ten minutes late.
M: In that case, we still have twenty minutes.
Text 4
W: Last time I saw you, you were planning to go to medical school, weren’t
you?
M: Yes, I was, but as it turned out, I changed my mind.
W: Really? Why did you change your mind?
M: There are so many doctors now, so I thought it would be very difficult for me to find a job after I graduated, so I finally decided to go to law school instead.
Text 5
W: What can I do for you, sir?
M: Do you have sports shoes for children, around ten years old?
W: Sorry, sir, but you are in the wrong store. We only sell shoes for adults. I can help you if you need a pair for yourself.
M: Thanks, but I don’t need any.
Text 6
W: Excuse me. Are you the manager of this store?
M: Yes, I am. How can I help you?
W: I just wanted to let you know that one of your employees, Anne, is especially helpful. She goes out of her way to answer questions and help people find things. I wanted to mention it to someone so that she might get some recognition for her great service.
M: Well, thanks a lot. I’ll make sure to write down what you said just now so the store owner will hear about it.

W: Hello, Peter. What are you doing now?
M: I’m doing my laundry. I haven’t done it for a whole week.
W: I’m so bored. I have nothing to do. Hey, do you want to take a break from your laundry and have coffee at Starbucks with me?
M: Sure, that sounds great. I’ll meet you there in thirty minutes.
W: Er ... I wonder if you can pick me up at my house. My car is in the garage being repaired.
M: Sure.
Text 8
M: You’re back. Here’s a package I think belongs to you.
W: Let me see... What’s this language? German?
M: No, and it’s not English either. Just open it and so we can see what the surprise is.
W: All right.
M: Wow! What’s this?
W: Oh, now I remember. This is a package from a French friend of mine. It’s chocolate!
M: Oh, I’ve got the picture here. So this is basically French chocolate? What’s so special about that?
W: It’s actually more special than you think. Go get two glasses of milk.
M: All right—here you are.
W: See, you put the chocolate in the milk! Hot chocolate.
M: Impressive.
Text 9
M: Katie, what was the worst meal you have ever eaten?
W: Oh, it has to be this plate of chicken.
M: What? Are you serious?
W: Ha ha, no, I’m just kidding, though this restaurant is pretty bad. Let me think ... It was the meal that my dad and I had when we were on vacation last summer.
M: So what was it?
W: Well, we were in Hawaii, and all the restaurants were super expensive, so we went to a little place far from the beach.
M: Let me guess—the fish wasn’t fresh.
W: Yes, and my dad and I were both sick when we got back to the hotel. I haven’t eaten in many restaurants since then. That experience really affected me. What about you?
M: Well, I couldn’t eat French fries for quite a long time.
W: Why not?
M: Once I had a terrible experience in a fast food restaurant. The place had a
bit of a fly problem, and they must have forgotten to check the potatoes.
W: Oh, no! French flies!

The National Park we will visit is located in the desert just north of our city. Like any hike of this nature, you should be prepared.
First, hike with a partner for safety and leave word where you will be traveling in case of an emergency. Second, carry a cell phone with you. However, keep in mind that you might not get any signal, so don’t depend on it. Third, light, breathable clothing is best during the summer, along with a hat and strong hiking shoes. Fourth, carry plenty of water. Having a few snacks can give you energy, too. Fifth, take a first-aid equipment with you. Sixth, pack a detailed map of the area you are hiking, along with a GPS to locate your position. And finally, take nothing home with you except pictures and memories. You can protect these areas by leaving all rocks, flowers, and other objects for future visitors.
