My Most Impressive Day on the College Campus
Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm going to tell you about the most impressive day I had when I went to visit a college campus. It was super exciting!
It all started when my parents said we were going on a little trip to visit a college called Princeton University. I had heard of colleges before from my older brother who just graduated high school, but I didn't really know much about them. All I knew was that they were these really big schools where older kids went after finishing high school.
When we first pulled up to Princeton, I was in total awe! The whole campus looked like a castle from a fairytale. There were these huge old stone buildings with big arched windows and doors, covered in ivy vines. The grounds had perfectly trimmed green lawns and trees everywhere. I couldn't believe kids actually went to school in a place that looked magical like that!
Our first stop was at this building called Nassau Hall. The guide told us it was one of the oldest buildings, built all the way back in 1756! Can you believe people have been learning at that very same building for over 250 years? It had a bell tower on top
and my dad said the bell still rings between classes just like old times. So cool!
Next we went inside the chapel, which was hands down the fanciest room I had ever seen. The entire room, from the floors to the walls to the arched ceilings, was made of intricate stone carvings. And get this - it even had stained glass windows! Just like an actual castle or cathedral. I felt like I was transported back to medieval times.
After the chapel, we headed outside again to the courtyard area between some of the academic buildings. This was probably my favorite part. The courtyard was lined with these underground tunnels and archways that connected all the buildings. Our guide said they were called the Holder Halls, and students used them to easily walk between classes no matter what the weather was like outside. I thought it was so awesome that they had their own secret underground tunnels!
We got to go inside a few of the academic halls too. My mind was completely blown by how gigantic the libraries were. They had millions of books lining theendless shelves reaching all the way up to the ceiling stories high! The guide told us about this incredibly cool room called the Firestone Library where students could study surrounded by ancient carved wood details
and stained glass windows. I couldn't even imagine trying to study in a place that beautiful - I would just spend all my time staring at everything in awe!
Another crazy thing about Princeton's campus was how many different architecture styles all the buildings were. Our guide explained that's because the campus was built over many different time periods spanning several centuries. Some buildings looked likemedievalcastles, others looked like modern glass skyscrapers. It made theentire campusseem like its own little city frozen in time.
Finally, we headed over to the athletic area to see some of the sports facilities. The overall athletics building itself was already huuuuge, but then we went inside and I couldn't believe howbig the indoor basketball arena was! It was literally like a professional basketball stadium. The guide told us it held over 6,000 people for games! My mind was blown that some college games could get bigger crowds than professional sporting events at arenas I'd been to. I definitely want to try to go to a college basketball game one day just to experience that atmosphere.
After the athletic area, our tour was over. But there was one lastbig event that happened to make the day even more special -
we got to have lunch at one of the dining halls! Now, I don't know if it's just because I'm used to eating cafeteria food at my elementary school, but this dining hall was out of this world. It looked like an actual restaurant, complete with cloth napkins and servers bringing out multi-course meals. The food was so delicious and fancy, I felt like apompous prince dining at a royal palace! Safe to say it put my typical lunchroom chicken nuggets to shame.
As we headed back home after our visit, my mind was just racing with everything I had seen that day. The grandeur of the buildings, the rich history, theunderground tunnels, the enormity of the libraries and stadiums...it was all so aweinspiring for a little kid like me. I had noideacolleges were such sprawling miniature cities filled with somany incredible sights.
I may only be in elementary school, but that visit to Princeton's campus definitely amped up my excitement and motivation to one day attend a college just like that. Can you imagine going to classes every day surrounded by such inspiringmasterpiecesof architecture? Or studying for finals in one of those Gothic cathedralmillion-book libraries? Even just having access to those world-class athletic facilities alone would be enough to make me want to go to a school like Princeton!
Who knows, maybe years down the road I'll be lucky enough to actually be a student at an amazing college campus like that. But for now, I'll just haveto cherish the incredible memories from my very first visit to Princeton University. It was easily one of the most aweinspiring and stimulating placesI've ever experiencedas a kid. I may be years away from applying to colleges, but that single campus tour definitely kicked my appreciation and ambition for higher education into high gear!
