“ We are made wise not by the recollections of the past but by our responsibility for the future” ----George Bernard Shaw
China is faced with some enormous challenges as it enters the 21st century. In order to ensure the prosperity of ournation and its future generations we must confront and ultimately solve these challenges.
Some of the more pressing issues facing China are universal. These include environmental degradation, overpopulation and the effects of globalization.
To overcome some of the things we need to implement include:
Enhancing our scientific and industrial technologies in such areas as IT, Bio- tech, AI and Cybernetics. Further develop public infrastructure in under developed regions. Promote education reform at all levels. Introduce sustainable development initiatives.
The implementation of free trade agreement between China and ASEAN.
The benefit to China in introducing these initiatives will be significant and far-reaching. It is important to realize that theseinitiatives need to filter down through all elements of the society in China. For instance, cutting edge technologies andintellectual properties; the development of e-commerce based economy; an education system that encourages innovationand creativity; increased foreign investment; higher living standards; more efficient use of natural resources.
It is important for us to realize these reforms are both essential and necessary. These will help China to fulfill its vast andunrealized potential on the world stage. It will also contribute more to a globalized world of the new century. As for the future our task is not to foresee but to enable.

My Definition of Success
“Once upon a time, there was a king who had a daughter as beautiful as a blooming rose. To all the suitors who cameto the king's palace to ask for the hand of the princess, the old king assigned three tasks to be accomplished, each next toimpossible. One day, into the king's palace came a handsome young prince...\" Well, you know the rest. The three tasks maybe different in different versions, but the main plot is always the same, with the prince claiming the princess's handtriumphantly.
And the ending is always the same, finishing with the line \"And they live happily every after.\"
Why aren't we tired of something so fanciful, so unrealistic, and, I would say, so unimaginative? How can a story like thatendure generations of repetition`? Because, I think, it is a typical success story. It is highly philosophical and symbolic. Byimplication, we see a 4-step definition of success: 1 ) a goal to be set. as represented by the beautiful princess; 2 )
challenges to be met, as represented by the three tasks; 3 ) the process of surmounting difficulties, as represented by theordeals the youth goes through; and 4 ) the reward of success, as represented by the happy marriage.
The story not only caters to everyone's inward yearning for success, but also emphasizes the inseparability of the
process and the result. The reward of success will be much amplified if the path leading towards it is treacherous, and viceversa. If a person inherits his father's millions and leads an easy life, he is not a successful person even in material terms, because there are no difficulties involved in his achieving affluence. The term \"success\definition. But as I understand it, the true meaning of success entails a combination of both the process and the satisfactoryresult of an endeavor. To clarify my view, let me give another analogy.
If we changed the rules of football, greatly enlarged the goal and sent away David Seaman or any other goal keeper, sothat another David, namely David Beckham, could score easily, then scoring would not give him the thrill of accomplishmentand the joy that it brings. If we further changed the rules by not allowing Arsenal's defenders to defend, so that Beckhamneeded only to lift a finger, actually a toe, to score, then there would be no game at all, because the meaning of winningwould have disappeared. In accepting the challenge, in surmounting the difficulties and in enduring the hardship, successacquires its value. The sense of attainment varies in proportion to the degree of difficulties on overcomes.
The concept of success is not constant but relative because the nature of difficulty is also relative. Something you doeffortlessly might pose a great difficulty for a handicapped person. In acquiring the ability to do the same as you can, he orshe achieve success. That's why we greatly admire Stephen Hawking, because, though confined to a wheel chair, he hascontributed greatly to the field of science.【篇三】⾼⼀学⽣英语演讲稿范⽂
I Agree or not agree: the next twenty years from now on, students will not use printed books any more.
I don't think so. printed books won't be abandoned in such a short time. I admit that new technology is developing fast. Many advanced electronic products are gradually take the place of traditional tools. Just like in university, teachers like to usemultimedia in class for it is quite convenient and efficient. However, for our student, it is not realistic to study completely byelectronic products.
There are many things need to recorded on books. Books are something meaningful and practical. I should say, in ourcountry, printed books wouldn't be abandoned within 20 years at least for two reasons. Firstly, books are classical containerof knowledge. They accompany human to advance. A student without books could be someway ridiculous. Secondly, ourcountry haven't developed so strong to make every student study by computer or other forms of electronic tools. And evenafter 20 years, the possibility is also very small. I also think it is unnecessary because books are cheap but useful and stillmeaningful.
