My daughter Hanghui is six years old. I took her to attend the child modeling course two years ago.

Luckily, she has a gift for being a model. I let her take the class because when she was very young, she was pigeon-toed(内八字的)and I wanted to correct it.

In the past, Hanghui was afraid to go out because she would have to meet so many people. That meant she always stayed at home, so I thought it necessary to take her out more to see the outside world.

After taking the class for more than a year, I noticed her progress. She was not so shy and she dared to speak with strangers. Even on the T-stage(T台), she could behave herself. So attending modeling class was the correct decision for her.

I have read reports about child models working all day to make money, and they may have lost their innocence(纯真), However, I don't feel worried about this, because Hanghui knows the difference between performances and real life. On the stage, she is serious and cool, but after classes or a performance, she becomes a lively kid again.

If she has a chance to be a Taobao or T-stage show model, I won't refuse the invitation. I will support her to do these jobs in her free time if she wants. However, if it influences her schoolwork, I won’t encourage it.

Do you feel bad when someone else has something that you want but don't have? Why do you feel this way? Here I share a case with you.

One day, I got a letter from a girl. She said that her friend just got a dog. Her friend talked about the dog all the time. It made the girl feel bad because she didn't have one.

Here's what I wrote back to her in my letter:

There are people who have nicer homes than us, have better jobs, or, in your case, own a cute dog you don't have.

25 / 31

It's quite natural to want things that we don't have, but instead, we should appreciate (珍惜) what we already have, or feel happy for people who have the thing we want.

In fact, owning a dog is a lot more hard work than it seems to be. Dogs need care, attention, exercise and love. There's also a lot of cleaning you'd need to do for it. Dog hair and dirty paw prints (爪印)would be everywhere in your home.

It's great to spend time with dogs though, so why not ask your friend if you can join her when she takes her dog out for a walk? You'd get to spend some fun time with your friend and get some exercise by walking.

And who knows - one day, you might own your own dog, too.

Whenever I talk of my father, my eyes are full of tears. I even have no idea why I am so excited, maybe because of ties of love.

When I was a child, I didn't like staying with my father. He was so strict with me that he often shouted at me because of my mistakes. Every time when I ran into some difficulties, I asked Mum or others for help. I didn't want to communicate with him. Also he just sat on the sofa, watching TV It seemed that we were strangers just living in the same house.

Unfortunately, he lost his job. In order to support our family, he left home and worked outside the hometown. I was happy then because I was unwilling to get along with him any more. Everything seemed to go well. Later, he rang me up saying that I needed to look after myself Besides, he made apologies for not staying with me and taking care of me. At that moment, I was deeply touched by his words. I started to know that my father loved me all the time just in another way that was different from Mum's.

When I was about to face the high school entrance exam, I was under great stress (压力). Without question, my father came back. He felt that he must stand together with me to fight for the future. Every morning, he got up earlier than me only to prepare breakfast for me. Every night, he stayed up late with me. So I decided to fight not only for myself; but also for my father. My father is a common person, but his love is great love.

Our lives have become more digital in the modem world. We can study, find information and communicate with friends through computers and phones. However, spending a lot of time working, reading, texting and playing games through digital devices (数码设备)is bad for our eyes.

According to the Optometric Association (验光协会),70% to 75% of computer workers have eye problems.

Digital eyestrain (眼睛疲劳)is one of the most common problems. People with digital eyestrain may get headaches, dry and red eyes, eye pain, watering and other problems.

“These problems have started to increase among children. Children get cellphones at younger ages and are using them very often during the day.\" Sarah Hinkley, spokeswoman for the Association, told the situation to us.

The good news is that there are many things you can do to reduce digital eyestrain.

When using a computer, first sit in your chair and reach out your arm. Your hand should rest comfortably on the screen, as if you're high-fiving the screen. Increase text size until your eyes feel comfortable.

When you are using a mobile phone, keep it at least 30 cm from your eyes and just below eye level. Try not to use it under sunlight.

Remember to take a 20-20-20 break: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break and look at something 20 feet (about 6 metres) away.
