14、Who would have thought of creating a library in a war zone where danger surrounds people? But a few book lovers have built an underground library in Darayya, Syria, which provides learning, hope and inspiration. Anas Ahmad is one of the founders of the library and he is a former civil engineering student.
Many times he and his friends risk their lives to collect books from destroyed(被毁坏的) houses near the front line(前线). That means they have to be very careful when they go through bombed-out buildings; they have to hide themselves from snipers(狙击手).
Since the library was built, its creators have collected more than 14,000 books from abandoned(被弃置的) houses and buildings. “We saw that it was important to create a new library so that we could continue our education,” said Ahmad. People throughout the city have put the library to good use. Doctors in the town are using the books to continue their studies and treat patients; these books even help them perform operations. Teachers are using the books to prepare classes in the war town. Unluckily, children will not be found in the library as it is too dangerous to walk there. “You can read about everything in books,” said one reader in the library. “They provide hope for us and help us find light in the darkness.”

15、The advice to\"let go\"of negative (消极的) feelings is repeated in yoga classes and self-help books. Now a new study suggests it really brings lasting health advantages. Those who had a hard time getting over daily troubles had more physical health problems ten years later.
If you are likely to think over daily troubles--running through every \"what if\" and \"if only\"-- it makes you feel that's a big deal. Maddux said, “You probably find you feel even worse after a night of thinking. If that cycle is repeated over time, it will wear you down.\"
The study results are based on 1,155 people who took in a national health study. Each day, the people described their feeling changes over the past 24 hours. During the 10-year mark, only 17 percent of the people have no physical health problems, and only 20 percent are satisfied with their physical strength. But those who always say they have negative feelings because of daily troubles are more likely to have the physical problems, the finding showed.
People can be likely to have bad feelings for a longer time for many reasons. For some people, worries or anger could drive it. Many others naturally have a more nervous feeling or are likely to think over and over again. But even if you are born to be negative, that can be changed.
\"Yes, it's hard to 'let go',\" Leger said. But people can develop that skill through practice, in which you train the mind to pay attention to the present, rather than worries about the past.
\"Paying attention to the present, especially on things you are grateful for, has been shown to have several advantages, \"Leger said.
1.What does the study result show us?'
A.1, 155 people say they have physical health problems. B.During 24 hours, people never change their feelings C.Only 17% of the people have no physical health problems. D.Only 20% don’t feel quite good about their physical strength.

17、 The father’s role in the family is important. One researcher says babies who are cared for by their fathers have greater cognitive (认知的) development at one year of age than babies not cared for by their fathers. Another researcher reports that by spending time with their pre-school children, fathers can help to develop children’s language ability. Researchers also point out that for school-age children, fathers are one bridge with the outside world.
Fathers who value (重视) education have children who do better in school than those children whose fathers don’t value education. What’s more, fathers who spend quality time with their children may give their children happy memories which may last a lifetime.
While each father is a unique person who educates children in his own style, good fathers have something in common.
Good fathers attend their children’s school activities. They also involve the children in their lives and the adult world by taking them to see the workplace, or by taking them when the car needs to be repaired, etc.
Good fathers expect a great deal from their children, but also accept and support the unique individuals (个体) that their children are becoming.
Good fathers prefer explanations and reasoning to force.
Good fathers know their time with children is really an investment (投资) in them.

19、Let’s Do Something to Save Our Environment
It is recently reported that some rivers and lakes have dried up in South China. A lot of fishes died. The bottoms of the rivers and lakes have become grass land. The water is becoming less and less because of the bad weather.
So everyone should do something to save our environment. First, we should save every drop of water, such as turning off the taps after using it and recycling the water. For example, we can water the plants and clean the rest room with our used water. Second, we should save energy, such as less turning on the lights and turning off the lights when we leave;Do more walking, more bicycling and less driving and so on. Third, we should ask our government to control the pollution from the factories.
Let’s act now from everything to save our environment. Don’t let our tears be the last drop of water in the world!
