Researchers have found that REM (rapid eye movement) sleep is important to human beings. This type of sleep generallyoccurs four or five times during one night of sleep lasting five minutes to forty minutes for each occurrence. The deeper aperson’s sleep becomes, the longer the periods of rapid eye movement.
There are physical charges in the body to show that a person has changed from NREM (non-rapid eye movement) to REMsleep. Breathing becomes faster, the heart rate increases, and, as the name implies, the eyes begin to move quickly.Accompanying these physical changes in the body is a very important characteristic of REM sleep. Foxes and farmers have never got on well. These small dog-like animals have long been
accused of killing farm animals. They are officially classified as harmful and farmers try to keep their numbers down byshooting or poisoning them.
Farmers can also call on the services of their local hunt to control the fox population. Hunting consists of pursuing a foxacross the countryside, with a group of specially trained dogs, followed by men and women riding horses. When the dogseventually catch the fox they kill it or a hunter shoots it.
People who take part in hunting think of it as a sport; they wear a special uniform of red coats and white trousers, and followstrict codes of behavior. But owning a horse and hunting regularly is expensive, so most hunters are wealthy.
It is estimated that up to 100,000 people watch or take part in fox hunting. But over the last couple of decades the number ofpeople opposed to fox hunting, because they think it is brutal (残酷的), has risen sharply. Nowadays it is rare for a hunt topass off without some kind of confrontation (冲突) between hunters and hunt
saboteurs (阻拦者). Sometimes these incidents lead to violence, but mostly saboteurs interfere with the hunt by misleadingriders and disturbing the trail of the fox's smell, which the dogs follow.
Noisy confrontations between hunters and saboteurs have become so common that they are almost as much a part of
hunting as the pursuit of foxes itself. But this year supporters of fox hunting face a much bigger threat to their sport. A LabourParty Member of the Parliament, Mike Foster, is trying to get Parliament to approve a new law which will make the hunting ofwild animals with dogs illegal. Movement of Population
Nowadays, with the development of modern society, there has been a steady rise in the number of movement of population. This phenomenon has aroused considerable concern from the whole society.
Just as a coin has its two sides, the movement of population is no exception. It has brought about many benefits. First andforemost, there is no denying the limited land can no longer produce enough crops for an ever-increasing rural population. Inaddition, it is obvious that there are far more opportunities in big cities—rural laborers dream of earning money through hardwork However,it also has some problems. For one thing,it will increase the pressure of traffic, for another, it also doesgreat harm to the environment.
On the basis of the above analysis I mentioned above, we can confidently predict the future tendency. There is no denyingthat if city people and rural laborers have devoted themselves to constructing a healthy city,we will have a promising future.
