听力原文:And now for something quite different: how can chickens provide not only that delicious breakfast egg, but also the power to cook it? The answer lies in that plentiful by-product of the chicken farm, namely, chicken dung. An enterprising British company has proved that ‘green’ solutions to the electric power needs of communities can be profitable. In fact, there are already three, yes three dung-fired power stations in use in Britain, which have attracted attention from other European countries and several projects in different places are already at the advanced planning stage. ‘We first believed that the only use for our dung was to make electricity,’ says the British company’s owner, ‘but after burning it for power, we are left with a residue rich in potash and phosphate, but nitrogen-free. This provides a far more marketable fertilizer which we can sell as well as the electricity we produce.’ In many countries, agricultural waste is seen more of a problem than industrial waste, polluting even the sea where rivers have carried nitrogen and other agricultural waste to estuaries and inshore waters. By burning dung and producing cheap electric power in the process, however, this company is solving two problems in one go.

听力原文:In this country, the process of buying a house is straightforward When you have found the place you want to buy, you put in a written offer - a verbal offer is not legally binding. Your offer is made in writing in the form of a Sales and Purchase Agreement. The offer may be conditional upon a builder’s report or mortgage finance, for example. When all the terms of the sale have been agreed to by the buyer and the seller, a contract is signed. Once the Sales and Purchase Agreement has been signed and dated by both parties, the buyer is required to give a deposit. This is usually 10% of the purchase price. Once all conditions have been met, the sale then becomes unconditional and fully binding. At this point, the deposit is released to the owner and will not be refunded should you fail to settle. Should settlement be delayed for any reason, interest is charged on the outstanding amount, until settlement is made in full.

听力原文:Good afternoon and welcome to the Zoology Department. We’re going to consider the effect of introduced species in New Zealand. I’d like to start with a quick look at ancient history. New Zealand is a tiny fragment of the ancient continent of Gondwanaland. Our diverse flora comes from two sources: first, the ancient species present when this country was still part of Gondwanaland, and the second, species which arrived after separation. The vegetation developed without browsing mammals. However, since human settlement, there has been considerable destruction or alteration of the landscape through fire and the introduction of mammals and foreign plants. There were three major invasions by humans. First, were the Polynesians and they brought with them the ‘kuri’ dog and the ‘kiore’ rat. Much later, Captain Cook arrived followed by European sealers and whalers. European rats and mice came aboard their ships. Finally, European settlers started arriving from the 1840s onwards introducing all manner of birds, animals and plants into the still fairly pristine environment. Some species were introduced from Australia but most came from the British Isles and Europe.

听力原文:Hello everyone. Glad to see so many happy faces on this wild and windy day. Are you ready to go looking for whales? I’m Daisy and our other guide today is Dale. We’ll be using these two rubber boats you see here and our trip today will take 3 hours. In a few minutes, we’ll be heading into part of the largest temperate rainforest of the Pacific Northwest. I’ll show you our route on the map here. This is where we are now. We’ll be leaving the sheltered bay and heading out across the mouth of the bay toward the open water. As you know, last night there were strong winds in the area so we can’t go out into the ocean as we had planned. Near the mouth, the water will be quite rough. That’s where we are most likely to spot orcas, or killer whales as they are also called. After crossing the mouth of the bay we’ll enter the calmer shallower waters. This is where you look for grey whales. Then we will continue up this narrow inlet close to the shore. You will have a great view of giant fir and cedar trees that have never been logged. Here is the place to watch for wildlife. You are likely to see bears along the shore and eagles in the sky overhead. Right at the back of the inlet, here, are the hot springs where we will be stopping for an hour. You can have a soothing soak in bubbling hot water before the return trip. I’ll tell you a little bit about the whales now because with the noise of the wind and the engine you won’t be able to hear much out here.
